The European black vulture lives on plateaus and in mountainous areas at altitudes of 2,000-4,500 meters. It therefore has a strong ability to fly. It feeds on animal carcasses and rotten meat.


The Australian black swan has long been compared with a graceful princess. The zoo has several swimming free in the Swan Lake.

The Asian elephant is the symbol of the Shanghai Zoo. Elephants are herbivores and feed mainly on grass.

The hawksbill turtle is a protected species covered by Chinese law.
